Injektionen mit expansivem Harz erlauben es, in nicht-invasiver Art und Weise, den Untergrund zu kompaktieren und Hohlräume zu füllen.</h4>
<p>Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden verschiedene Möglichkeiten der Anwendung dieser Technik anhand von fünf Fallbeispielen in Europa präsentiert. Um die einzelnen Phasen der Intervention zu schildern, werden bei jedem Beispiel die besonderen Aspekte hervorgehoben. Für die Planung können verschiedene Ansätze verwendet werden: Vom einfachen statistischen Ansatz bis hin zu 3D-Finite-Elemente-Modellierung. Aufgrund der historischen Bedeutung der Gebäude kam der kontinuierlichen Überwachung während der Arbeiten eine bedeutende Rolle zu, zusammen mit vergleichenden Tests vor Ort zur Bestimmung der Effektivität der Injektionen.</p>

<h4>Due to the placement of a gas pipeline through a railway embankment in Croatia, a tunnel drilling of the underground has been made using the HDD technology.</h4>
<p>The pipe inserting procedure caused an increase of the stress state in the construction, which resulted in excessive deformations and continues settlements (approximately 5 cm/week). The embankment was built with uniform stone materials, size 5÷20 cm, without small and fine particles characterized by a large share of voids. To increase the stiffness of the constitutive soil of the embankment, injections of high pressure expanding resin Uretek Geoplus<sup>®</sup> have been made, based on the results of a 3D FEM analysis. During the whole intervention a real time monitoring enabled an accurate control of the operations and major settlements have been prevented.</p>

<h4>This paper presents an experimental study on the performance of a two component polyurethane grout. The grout is injected into the soil with packers and polymerized with volume expansion. The strong expansion of grout causes compression of the surrounding soil near the injection point.</h4>
<p>The improvement of the mechanical behavior of soil through grouting is investigated by an extensive testing program, which includes the penetration resistance by dynamic probing, the measurement of density and water content with a nuclear gauge, the static and dynamic plate loading tests. The large scale tests are carried out under clearly defined and reproducible conditions.</p>

<h4>In order to stop the settlement process of a mediaeval tower located in Città di Castello (Italy), polyuretanic resins injections were performed in the foundation soil.</h4>
<p>The designing of the ground improving intervention was made with a 3D finite elements code and an analytical method based on the finite cavity expansion theory (Yu H.S. e Houlsby G.T., 1991), which allows to predict soil parameters changes due to resin expansion in the ground. During job site activity and for a long period after the works were finished the structure has been accurately monitored; the measured data seem to get on well with the one obtained from model analysis. The model creation, starting from the avilable geological data input, was necessary for the understanding of the causes which trigged to settlements. The Safety Factor improvement experienced during the simulation was about 30%.</p>

<p>Zur Wirkung von Injektionen aus URETEK Expansionsharz wurden jüngst zwei Studien im Rahmen der Behandlung quellungs- und schrumpfungsanfälliger toniger Böden durchgeführt.</p>

<h4>The fast growing number of reported hazards due to drought, increased the need to study the relationship of precipitation frequency and cracking phenomena.</h4>
<p>The rainfall data and hazards number of a limited geographical area have been studied to determine the most suitable index for prediction of future problematic periods. Also the effects of drought on foundation ground have been monitored to work out a method to solve or prevent problems on construction related with swelling and shrinking of clayey soils. The comparison of the effects on soil of drought and of high expansion pressure resin injections showed that they are quite similar in terms of stiffness increase, but the higher density of soil compressed by resin injections, prevents strong future volume variations.</p>

<h4>Seismically induced foundation failures can be triggered due to the increase of load beyond capacity or strength loss of the bearing soils. A major category of remedial measures against such mode of damage is the improvement of foundation soils.</h4>
<p>Considering the case of existing structures in the urban environment, however, applicability of a great majority of the methods included in this category are either not possible or seriously limited due to the excessive noise or vibration generated during construction. On the other hand, solidification of foundation soils through method of injection bears exceptional advantages regarding such concerns, and provides a relatively high level of effectiveness compared to the possible alternatives. Two applied cases of foundation bearing capacity improvement through utilization of commercial polymer injection are presented for existing structures in Turkey. Penetration testing was utilized before and after execution for the assessment of treatment effectiveness of the foundation soils which were liquefaction susceptible in one case and nonliquefiable rather weak fine soils in the other. On the basis of the results, the effectiveness of the method is evaluated and relevant practical aspects of implementation involved in applications in the urban environment are discussed …</p>

<h4>Polyuretanic resins, providing high-pressure expansion, are used more and more in ground injections. Designing methods for predicting the degree of ground improvement produced by this specific improving technology can be developed by theoretical approaches. A prevision method, based on finite cavity expansion in dilatants soil theory, has been developed and is presented in this paper. A comparison between theoretical data and on site tests results is also provided.</h4>
<p>Starting from specific laboratory tests carried out on resin samples, a modification was  introduced to the previous works on cavity expansion, based on the experimental relationship between resin expansion pressure and confinement pressure offered by the treated soil. The different behaviour shown by cohesive and granular soils depends on their permeability to resin. The resin, in its liquid phase, expands in cohesive soils in a monolithical body and poorly permeates the soil by breaking it along micro-fissures. On the other side, after injection in granular soils, the liquid resin fills the soil voids and originates a composite hard material with a compressive strength comparable to concrete.</p>
